The Taj Mahal; a Monumental Love Story
In the run up to Valentines day we’re reminiscing our breath-taking visit to one of the Seven Wonders Of The World, that’s allure isn’t just architectural, but considered a living example of eternal love.
We take a look at the Taj Mahal's monumental love story...
The 17th Century white marble monument stands in the heart of India and was built by the Mughul emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, the “Jewel of the Palace”.
On her death he was so heartbroken he undertook the task of building the world’s most beautiful monument in memory of his beloved wife.
The plan was that the Taj Mahal (“the crown of the region”) would represent heaven (Jannah) on Earth. No expense was spared to make this happen.
It took 22 years and the labour of 22,000 workers to construct the monument and goes on to mesmerise its many visitors with its heart-breaking story and bewitching beauty.
